We manufacture straight and curved freestanding stairs for customers around the world. For these, we often deal with contractors, custom home builders, and the home owners.
We stock hemlock, oak, maple, and poplar. We consider hemlock our paint grade material, though you can also stain it. We also produce materials in most other species upon request, including fir, jatoba (Brazillian cherry), walnut, North American cherry, mahogany, and many more.
We carry a few standard profile railings, our 2-7/8", mushroom, crown (large and small), 2x4 and 2x6 bullnose rail, as well as a mushroom and 2-1/4" wall rail. We also carry dowelling in various diameters and can do custom rails upon request.
Please check with your local building inspector, but as a rule of thumb you require 2.4 wood spindles (1-5/8") per foot, 2.8 of our 1-1/4" wood spindles, and 3 metal spindles per foot.
A. Most of our spindles are 1-5/8” x 1-5/8”, with standard heights of 36” and 42”. Our metal spindles are ½”, 9/16” and 5/8”, heights of 43”. We also have a line of 1-1/4" wood spindles.
These are terms used with our solid 3-1/4"x3-1/4" newel posts. USNP - under scroll newel post RTNP - round top newel post SONP - soft top (eased edges on the top) newel post.
Always determine handing when looking at the stairs from the bottom; so as an example, a RH scroll would be on the right side when looking at the stairs from below.
